Cancelling a subscription and exporting your data

How to cancel, what happens to your data after, and how to take it with you.

You can cancel any active subscription self-serve. We don't make you call us, sit through a retention offer, or jump through hoops. The trade we ask in return: please tell us why on the way out.

Cancelling a school subscription

(For school owners.)

  1. Settings → Billing → Cancel subscription.
  2. Pick a reason (price, missing feature, switching tools, etc.) and optionally add a note.
  3. Confirm.

Cancellation is effective at the end of your current billing period. Until then, nothing changes — your members keep working, payouts keep flowing, the AI keeps running.

After the period ends:

  • The workspace flips to trial-ended state.
  • Mutating actions are blocked (new invites, new lessons, fleet edits).
  • Read access stays open indefinitely. Your data is still yours and still queryable.

Cancelling a student-side account

Students don't have a subscription per se — your school pays for your seat. If you want to leave the platform:

  • Contact your school admin to suspend or archive your membership. See Suspending memberships.
  • If you want to delete your personal Checkride account entirely (not just the school membership), email support@trycheckride.com from the email on the account.

Exporting your data

Before cancelling, export anything you might want later:

  • Logbook → Export — CSV of every logbook entry, with all the standard columns. Suitable for re-importing into another platform.
  • Endorsements → Download all — ZIP of every endorsement PDF.
  • Training progress — printable PDF summary of your requirements and current status.
  • School admin: Members → Export roster — CSV of every member, their role, and join date.

The exports are generated server-side and emailed to you when ready. Large exports (hundreds of entries) can take a few minutes.

Exports include all data the requester has permission to see. A school admin's export covers the whole school; a student's covers only their own records. We don't gate behind subscription status — you can always export your data even after cancelling.

Account deletion (the hard one)

If you want everything we have about you permanently deleted (vs just deactivated), email support@trycheckride.com from the address on your account. We confirm the request via a different channel (because email accounts get compromised), then:

  1. Mark the account for deletion.
  2. Anonymize your identifiable data in records that must be retained for our own legal obligations (signed endorsements, financial transactions).
  3. Permanently delete the rest within 30 days.

This is irreversible. Once we've completed it, we can't recover your data even if you change your mind.
