Resetting your password
How to recover access when you've forgotten your password, or proactively change it.
If you can't sign in because you forgot or never set a password:
- From the sign-in screen, click Forgot password.
- Enter the email on your account.
- Watch your inbox (and spam) for a
Reset your Checkride passwordemail. - Click the link, set a new password, sign in.
The reset link is single-use and expires after about an hour. If you don't act in time, request another one — there's no limit.
Changing your password when you're signed in
Settings → Security → Change password. You'll be prompted for your current password before setting a new one. If you don't have a current password (you signed up via magic link), use Set password instead.
Password requirements
- Minimum 8 characters
- Must contain at least one letter and one number
- Can include any other characters (we encourage long passphrases)
We don't enforce special-character requirements because they trade real security for memorability problems. A 16-character passphrase beats P@ssw0rd! every time.
Use a password manager. Checkride doesn't disable browser autofill or paste in the password field — we want long, random, manager-generated passwords to work cleanly.
If you used Apple SSO
There's no Checkride password to reset for Apple-SSO accounts. The identity is owned by Apple. If you've lost access to the Apple ID itself, you'll need to recover it with Apple first. Once you have your Apple ID back, signing in to Checkride works again automatically.
If your email account is compromised
Email is the recovery channel for everything. If someone has access to your inbox, they can request a reset link and take over your Checkride account. Two things to do, in order:
- Lock down your email — change its password, enable 2FA, sign out other sessions.
- Reset your Checkride password (now that the inbox is yours again).
If you suspect malicious activity on your Checkride account already, email support@trycheckride.com and we'll force-expire all your existing sessions immediately while you work through recovery.
