Issuing endorsements

Pick a template, fill in the variables, sign, and the endorsement lands in the student's record.

The endorsement system uses FAR-aligned templates as the source of truth. You don't write endorsement text from scratch — you pick the template that matches the action (solo, cross-country, checkride, complex, high-performance, etc.), fill in the student-specific variables, and sign.

Picking the right template

From the student's profile, click Endorsements → New. You'll see templates filtered by:

  • The student's active license (private, commercial, ATP, etc.)
  • The category and class you're rated to teach in

Each template shows its code (e.g., 61.87(n) for solo cross-country), title, regulation reference, and the variables it expects.

Filling in variables

Common template variables:

  • [STUDENT_NAME] — auto-filled from the student record
  • [DATE] — defaults to today, editable
  • [AIRCRAFT_MAKE_MODEL] — picker scoped to your school's fleet
  • [AIRPORT_LIMITATION] — for endorsements that restrict to a specific airport
  • [EXPIRY_DATE] — for endorsements with a 90-day or 60-day window

The platform validates required variables before you can sign. You can't issue an endorsement with [DATE] left as a literal.

Signing

The signature step requires:

  • Your typed or drawn signature
  • Your CFI certificate number (auto-filled from your profile)
  • The issue date (defaults to today)

On submit:

  • The endorsement is created in the student's record with status issued.
  • A PDF render is generated and attached.
  • The student gets a notification with a link to view it.

Endorsements are mostly readonly after issuance. You can't change the student, instructor, license, or core variables — that would invalidate the signed record. If you need to correct something material, revoke the endorsement and issue a new one.

Revoking an endorsement

If you issued an endorsement in error, open it and click Revoke. You'll be required to leave a reason. The student sees the revocation immediately. The original record is retained but marked as revoked — you can't make a wrong endorsement disappear from the audit trail.

What endorsements you can issue

Limited by your CFI ratings on file. If you're not an MEI, you can't issue multi-engine instruction endorsements; the templates won't even appear in your picker. If you think you're missing a template, check your profile's listed ratings under Settings → Profile.
